high priestess character concept

i had a dream about rectangles and i had the desire to design some kind of clothing that was really rectangle heavy, paneled and all that. it turned into a character concept for a high priestess specializing in healing arts as dictated by her outer veil's blue stripes. I have a whole thing about how people would rise up in the ranks in the temple and what colors and patterns would signify what specialty they are, but i'm too tired to get into it here, hahaha!

warm ups

some more warm ups, the former image making me realize i ought to try and paint something from life for a hot second at least. hands have been proving difficult for me lately, so after doing some bridgeman reading on their anatomy, drawing from life seemed the next logical step for practice.

was watching 'the two towers' today during warm up and theoden's character really struck me for some reason. 'the bespelled king' is a working title, subject to change.

tonight's cool down. finished some art tests for a job app, so this was a nice way to wind down, even if it did take a while. it ain't perfect, but at least i learned while doing it :D

warm ups

so i'm trying to get into the habit of doing a warm up grayscale paint before starting project work and it's been pretty good so far! it helps to relax me and just get into the flow of simplifying things so i don't over-complicate myself while i'm working as i'm wont to do more often than i'd like. results include being more aware of when i'm getting frustrated and pinpointing why as well as knowing that i need to step back for a moment :)
