character design: relationships assignment

for our most recent character design assignment, we had to design two characters from a list of archetypes assigned to us and create a visible relationship between them. the two archetypes i got were a wise old man or grandmother and a villain, devil, bad guy, etc.

my submission: original on watercolor paper with graphite, sepia ink and watercolor and added touches in Photoshop.



i did not go for a strictly antagonistic relationship, but hoped to soften it a little so it was a bit more family friendly. thanks for looking in advance!

Without referencing the movies and only the description of the room in the book, redesign the chocolate room, keeping in mind that it should be turn of the century architecture with instances of art nouveau.

character sculpture 1 final piece

after 10 long weeks of figuring out how to even sculpt, my labour is finished!! Here's the figure I designed and sculpted in chevant for my character sculpture 1 class with john brown.

Character Description: A Forest God that has lost his once infinite purpose in life on the earth.

in a bit of self reflection, I will more than likely work on this still. after a great talk with john about it, hindsight is truly 20-20 when i find that i could have done an even more evocative pose. all in all though, i am not disappointed as this was my first real attempt at sculpting a personal concept. i cannot even believe how much i can apply what i've learned in this class to my drawing, concept design and painting skills! so extremely happy that i took this course :D

digital painting: midterm complete!

the final submission for my digital painting midterm. I learned so much from working on this, I'm really excited for our final project so that I can apply those skills, it's going to be awwwesome ^_^

digital painting WIPs

wow. school has been crazy busy O_o

these are some work-in-progress shots of my digital painting class midterm. the premise of the assignment was to paint your 'happy place', i.e. a place that you could create if you had unlimited resources, money, and manpower.

starting with grayscale thumbnail shots:

still got some ways to go, but i learned so much from painting this. i can't wait to start another one where i've thought out the concept a bit more thoroughly as this idea was rather rushed. thanks in advance for looking :)
