drawing hard surfaces. it was incredibly frustrating at first because i love looking at these objects (tanks and cars and the like) but i couldn't draw them at all!! trying to draw ellipses without using a pencil or eraser is the surest way to feel like you're not worth a damn.
as anxiety attack inducing as it was though, it was fun, and i got to look at pretty objects all day ^_^

3/4 view proportion studies:
eventually sinking into just studying whatever i was looking at and re-drawing the same object until i got closer to what it should be:

aminals! they're neat!
you can also see where my frustration was at times :3 but overall, i still love 'em.
all from reference images, the zoo was way too heartbreaking and had been invaded by hordes of awful, screaming, unsupervised children that were frightening the animals.

CDA: Vis Comm 1 (Part 3)
INSECTS. THEY WERE SCARY. AND SMELLED A BIT FUNKY. they were all dead though, so it made it easier to draw. another upside is that this exercise helped me get over my fear of bugs a bit; such sweet shapes and awesome little machines!!!
CDA: Vis Comm 1 (Part 2)
Plant drawings!!! :D drawn from plants at The Arboretum in Pasadena. VERY cool place, check it out when you've got time. Totally worth the measly 8 bucks they charge for admission.
