high priestess character concept
i had a dream about rectangles and i had the desire to design some kind of clothing that was really rectangle heavy, paneled and all that. it turned into a character concept for a high priestess specializing in healing arts as dictated by her outer veil's blue stripes. I have a whole thing about how people would rise up in the ranks in the temple and what colors and patterns would signify what specialty they are, but i'm too tired to get into it here, hahaha!

warm ups
so i'm trying to get into the habit of doing a warm up grayscale paint before starting project work and it's been pretty good so far! it helps to relax me and just get into the flow of simplifying things so i don't over-complicate myself while i'm working as i'm wont to do more often than i'd like. results include being more aware of when i'm getting frustrated and pinpointing why as well as knowing that i need to step back for a moment :)

vehicle design: final project
vehicle design: final project!!! woohooo!!
money shot of munitions transport unit concept nicknamed 'buddy'. i couldn't really decide on how to present it; just as a painting? or sort of in the showcase car fashion? or using an interesting border to keep it simple? either way, here it is and we'll see which one he chooses at the final class :D
for a first go at learning some serious vehicle design, i'm quite happy with this as well as how much I actually came to enjoy designing cars! i even boosted how much i knew about storytelling quite a lot with this assignment which is always a plus :D

more midterrrrms: creature and environment design
2 more midterms done! woohooo!
the color version of my creature design, which i'm pretty happy with, specially since it's only my second attempt at designing aminals:
and the touched up version of my grayscale environment, trying to fix issues with scale and values:
i'm not the most happy with this environment, but it was definitely a big milestone for me in terms of learning what NOT to do. i'm personally not even compelled by this, so i'll have to remember to think of just a bit more story sometime and figure out my focal point better.
*fingers crossed* that i get acceptable grades for them though!

veeeeeeeeehic-ups
my past 2 submissions for my vehicle design class. for a first attempt at actually trying to draw transportation devices, i'm pretty happy with myself :) can't wait to take some of these further!
it's actually also been a really nice way to learn how to design shapes better! even the smallest exercise of just drawing shapes in my sketchbook that resulted from this class so far is really simple but soothing ^_^ onwards!

the values, they are hard to paint! T__T
so the past 2 weeks have been an extremely humbling experience; i have realized how poor my grasp on value and scale is with regard to pushing perspective and depth as well as how poor my grasp on shape design is.
below is a grayscale paint up for my environment design class where I attempt to put these 3 concepts (value, scale, and shape) to better practice.
i feel that this was a pretty successful step in discovering what I need to think about when I am painting and how value works, as well as the next few steps i ought to take. rather than getting caught up in so much detail crap, i think it's time to do some smaller exercises :) outlook: optimistic
